Questions
What is Lumi?
Lumi is a free, open-source AI assistant for your Mac, made by Loomtable. Tap one key in any app and ask out loud, or type. Through your harness, it finds and works with your files, uses the tools you've connected, and answers on your screen with a short reply, rings, pointers and pictures.
Who is Lumi for?
Lumi is for everyone who works on a Mac: founders, product managers, designers, researchers, analysts, marketers, sales, writers, students, consultants, operators and developers. You ask in plain words from the app you're in, and Lumi does the work and answers right where you're looking.
Is Lumi free?
Yes. Lumi is free and open source under GPL-3.0-or-later, with no Lumi account or subscription. Your questions run through your own harness, so they count against your own AI plan.
What do I need to run Lumi?
A Mac with Apple Silicon running macOS 26, and your harness installed and signed in. The exact version is listed under Download.
Does Lumi work on Windows, iPhone or Intel Macs?
No. Lumi is Mac only. It runs on Macs with Apple Silicon and macOS 26, and there is no Windows, Linux, iPhone or Intel Mac version. Answers need an internet connection, because your harness sends each question to your AI provider.
What does Lumi send, and where?
Your question, and what your harness reads to answer it, go to your AI provider (Anthropic). Lumi has no servers of ours and no analytics, and it looks only when you press the key.
Does Lumi act on its own?
Lumi works through your harness: it can read, run and edit on your Mac and use the tools you connect. Changes Lumi proposes wait for your OK, and Insert never sends.
Is Lumi made by Anthropic?
No. Lumi is made by Loomtable and powered by Claude. It isn't made by or affiliated with Anthropic.
Why does macOS stop the first launch?
Lumi isn't signed by Apple yet. Open it once, then click Open Anyway in System Settings, Privacy & Security.
